Job Summary
The primary role of the Senior Director, Research and Development - Molecular Diagnostics is to serve as an R&D and product development leader, with a focus on bringing new products to market. This incorporates leadership of multiple development teams and oversight of product development efforts, including cross functional collaboration to address business areas such as market strategies, product profile definitions, manufacturability, and clinical study design. The senior leader in this position will act as a leader and mentor for their teams, and as a senior R&D team leader and subject matter expert for the site.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent may be asked to perform other function-related activities in addition to the below mentioned responsibilities as reasonably required by business needs. 
  • Lead scientific teams in the discovery and development of new technologies, and in developing new products.
    Acts as a key liaison with other functions to ensure close cooperation, coordination and teamwork between those functions and Product Development
    Provide technical leadership/contribution through all phases of product development
  • Manage project budgets, timelines, and other deliverables as needed.
    Champion the “voice of the customer” in all Product Development activities
  • Play role in developing future company vision based on technology and market insights
    Serve as a key strategic planning resource for Product Development related activities, including participation, as requested in outside technology assessments
    Recruit, hires, directs, and provides objectives/development goals for Product Development personnel, and builds/manages high performing teams.
  • Represent the company at conferences or at external meetings as needed.
  • Provide guidance and expertise to other departments, including product launch, customer support, and on-market product support.
  • Interact with upper management in communicating project requirements, tasks, issues and resourcing.
  • BS, MS or PhD degree in a scientific or engineering discipline
  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience with BS degree, or
  • Minimum of 12 years’ experience with MS degree, or
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience with PhD
  • Experience in molecular diagnostics or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing product development teams.
  • Experience in  IVD product development, preferably oncology
  • Subject matter expert in the field of molecular diagnostics
  • Expertise in the development of FDA regulated in vitro diagnostic products
  • Good understanding of the cGMP and IVD regulations related to product design
  • Extensive project management and people management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior management, peers, subordinates and other departments, and manage cross functional teams/relationships
